Buying a used phone or just imported one? Learning how to check PTA approved mobile online takes less than a minute and can save you from buying a blocked device. An unregistered phone stops working on all Pakistani networks after the temporary period — so always verify before you pay. Here are the 3 official methods, step by step.
Method 1: Check via SMS (8484) – Easiest
- Dial *#06# on the phone — the 15-digit IMEI appears on screen.
- Open your SMS app and type the IMEI number.
- Send it to 8484.
- You will receive a reply showing: Compliant (PTA approved), Non-compliant (not registered), or Blocked.
Dual-SIM phones have two IMEIs — check both. This method works from any Pakistani SIM and is completely free.
Method 2: Check on PTA DIRBS Portal (Online)
- Go to the PTA DIRBS portal (dirbs.pta.gov.pk).
- Enter your 15-digit IMEI in the verification box.
- Complete the captcha and submit.
- The portal shows the exact status plus the tax amount due if unregistered.
Method 3: PTA Mobile App
Download the official PTA app, verify your identity with your CNIC, and check any IMEI from the app. Useful if you check phones frequently (e.g., shopkeepers).
What the Results Mean
